Homestead House Renovation

At Tectonic, a custom home renovation is more than an upgrade. It’s an opportunity to reimagine how your home supports the life you want to live.

Whether you're remodeling a single room or your entire home, we take the same thoughtful approach as our custom builds, blending design, craftsmanship, and sustainability to create spaces that truly reflect you.

  • For this young Boulder couple with two kids in Eerie, the basement wasn’t just extra square footage; it was an opportunity. They envisioned a lower level that didn’t feel like a basement at all, but rather an extension of their vibrant, connected family life. This Boulder Eerie home renovation became one of our favorite examples of how thoughtful design can completely transform an underground space.

Their style was eclectic and expressive. They gravitated toward rich blues and greens and were incredibly intentional about tone and saturation, wanting color to shape the experience of the space. Rather than playing it safe, we leaned in. The result is layered, immersive, and full of personality while still feeling cohesive.

The layout was carefully zoned to support our clients’ favorite activity: gaming together online. A dedicated gaming area features custom floating desks and shelving designed to house computer towers, giving each family member their own station. Just beyond, a deep blue media room separated by a heavy-duty curtain for sound and light control creates a cozy, theater-like retreat. A guest bedroom, wet bar, climbing wall, and open play space round out the lower level, ensuring the basement can evolve as the kids grow and begin hosting friends of their own.

  • As part of this comprehensive Boulder home remodel, the entire basement was taken down and rebuilt with comfort and performance in mind. Radiant floor heating runs throughout the space (even extending into the shower bench) creating a warm, inviting experience year-round.

Custom LED lighting played a major role in elevating the design. Integrated lighting was installed within ceiling details and between wood slats in the bedroom, adding dimension and a subtle glow that enhances the mood of each space. These thoughtful details ensure the basement feels intentional and refined rather than secondary.

Functionality was just as important as aesthetics. The wet bar allows for easy snacks during gaming sessions or movie nights, and the full bathroom supports guests and growing independence for the kids. Every inch was designed to encourage togetherness while allowing flexibility.

This project is a standout example of design build in Boulder, transforming a once-overlooked basement into a dynamic, colorful extension of a family’s everyday life. It doesn’t feel like a basement at all. It feels like where life happens.
