As this family grew, their 1970s ranch-style home in North Boulder needed to grow with them. What once worked for a smaller household began to feel tight and outdated, prompting a thoughtful Boulder home renovation focused on modernization, health, and shared living.
From the start, the design centered on creating functional spaces that still expressed personality. The bathrooms took on a playful “His and Hers” approach. One became a luxurious mid-century modern retreat, layered in deep purple hues and warm brass finishes. The other embraced handcrafted blue tiles and clean-lined details–sophisticated, yet full of character. Each space feels distinct, yet cohesive within the overall design language of the home.
Downstairs, the basement was completely reimagined. What had once been underutilized square footage transformed into a vibrant extension of family life: a dedicated play area, a cozy TV lounge with custom white oak shelving, a stylish guest suite, and a multifunctional office and painting studio. Every zone balances practicality with warmth, ensuring the space feels intentional rather than secondary.
This Boulder renovation was especially unique because the family remained in the home throughout construction. Our team took exceptional care to protect lived-in spaces, meticulously controlling dust and maintaining a safe, comfortable environment as the transformation unfolded in real time.
A full basement overhaul addressed underlying mold issues while upgrading finishes and layout. Durable, easy-to-maintain flooring was installed to support active family life, and thoughtful details, like a hidden litter box nook and integrated custom shelving, were designed to make daily routines smoother.
In the primary bathroom, we expanded the vanity and improved overall functionality while maintaining the bold design vision. Sustainability remained a priority throughout the project, with unused materials donated to Resource to minimize waste.
The result is a refreshed, highly functional North Boulder home renovation that blends mid-century personality with modern comfort, a home thoughtfully updated to support the next chapter of family life.
